In the South
In developing countries, ONE DROP carries out projects to give impoverished communities access to water. At the same time, it establishes educational programs based on the arts to help them acquire the skills to manage and preserve this valuable resource.
Project goals
In keeping with the principles of sustainable development, our projects have five goals:
-
improving access to water
-
ensuring food security
-
increasing incomes
-
promoting gender equality and community involvement
-
raising awareness of water-related issues
Selecting projects
ONE DROP selects the countries where it is active on the basis of four criteria designed to ensure lasting results for the communities involved:
-
a lack of access to water
-
good governance
-
an organized civil society
-
concrete, measurable results
Current project
Since November 2005, the ONE DROP Foundation has been running a pilot project in the semi-arid mountainous region of Estelí in Nicaragua. Its goal is to improve the living conditions of the region’s rural population by providing water, improving agricultural practices and raising awareness of responsible water usage practices.
Future projects
In the coming years, ONE DROP will focus its operations in three regions facing serious water problems : Central America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. In each region, the Foundation has selected three contiguous countries facing similar problems of poverty and water access.
