France: Moselle River, near Nancy
At 545 km long, the Moselle River is the Rhine’s largest tributary. It flows through France, Germany and Luxembourg in the heart of a lush valley known for its many vineyards.
In recent years, however, the water quality of the Moselle River has been contaminated by farm, industrial and human effluents. Many projects have been launched to restore the ecosystem and balance of this fragile environment.
