ONE DROP mobilizes for Haiti
Like many people, the ONE DROP team was deeply upset by the disastrous consequences of the earthquake that hit Haiti last January 12. In response to this catastrophe, ONE DROP is preparing a water-access and sanitation project in conjunction with its partner Oxfam-Québec, to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in this country.
Long-term work
Though humanitarian aid is crucial at this time, ONE DROP has intentionally chosen to intervene in the process at a later date. Unlike other organizations—Oxfam, the Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders, for instance—ONE DROP does not have the required expertise in the field of emergency relief since it is not part of the organization’s mandate. Lili-Anna Pereša, the organization’s executive director, explains: “We have chosen to work out the details of Project Haiti in a sustainable development perspective and plan to implement it in a few months. At that time, though the media will have left the country, needs will still be as urgent. This is how we believe we can make a real difference in the lives of Haitians, using our means.”
Help us to help Haiti
In addition to the amount of $1 million donated by our RBC partner, Project Haiti will be financed with the proceeds from LA SOIRÉE ONE DROP, a benefit event that will take place in Montréal on April 30, during the world premiere of Cirque 2010, a touring production directed by Robert Lepage, and with donations from people who support ONE DROP.
Here are two ways to help us to rebuild Haiti:
• Purchase tickets for LA SOIRÉE ONE DROP from Lyse George - lyse.george@onedrop.org, +1 514-723-7646, ext. 6927
• Make a donation.
The ONE DROP team will keep you informed of developments concerning Project Haiti. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your show of solidarity.
