For World Water Day 2008, Oxfam-Québec(http://www.oxfam.qc.ca/) had asked that the Quebec population show solidarity towards communities who do not have access to water by taking on the Day Without Water Challenge from March 19 to 22.
Sophie Cadieux, Sylvie Fréchette and Judi Richards, artists and water ambassadors, attempted to convince Quebecers to live with only 20 litres of water for one day, the minimum required to meet daily basic human health and hygiene needs.
Here are the results of this initiative:
• The message was broadcasted over 50 times by the media, reaching some 900,000 listeners.
• Nearly 11,000 Internet users were made aware of the water access issues through Oxfam-Québec, Facebook and YouTube websites, as well as through a massive e-mail and e-card campaign.
• Some 2,000 people went the extra mile by using Oxfam’s water calculator and blogging.
Can you rise to the challenge?
