MODEL FOR A DAY

No, this is not the Incredible Hulk in a paler shade: ‘tis I, stealing a little power nap in my pumped-up spacesuit!

The content of this post is an adaptation of an original text written by Guy Laliberté.

I was all excited because I was trying on MY VERY OWN spacesuit, as well as the undergarments, training suit, survival kit and so on. Gloves were tried on, helmets were measured, I was weighed with my spacesuit on, etc. We couldn’t help laughing since that’s a lot of layers to put on!

The not-so-fun part was wearing the inflated spacesuit for about 2 hours to make sure there were no leaks. There was something that locked at knee-level and cut off circulation below the knees, though this didn’t keep me from taking a very refreshing nap. I have to say I’m very pleased with my spacesuit and it fits me well. They did good work!

I also tried it on in my moulded seat, which gave rise to a slight disagreement between the doctors and the technicians. While the doctors were pleased with my weight loss and happy to see that I was back into shape, the technicians were not at all thrilled to note that I had lost 8 kilos. So I decided to go along with the doctors!

Once this was over, I just had time to eat a banana and off we went for the camera training (photography and video). I’m trying to understand how all this material works since I really don’t want to be too caught up in training of this type. We also have to keep in mind that some pieces of equipment can have an effect on the pixels of the ISS material.

During the evening, I was able to get through my e-mail and paperwork backlog, and felt better after that. I tried watching 24 once again and made it to 48 minutes this time. This is starting to feel like a repeat of my vestibular training, where I’m having a tough time breaking my record—on a much more pleasant level, of course!

I have to admit, I’m quite disappointed: I was not given new bed sheets this week.  Maybe I’ve seen all they have in stock…
