ONE DROP in Honduras: Project once again on track

Following the coup d’état against President Manuel Zelaya on June 28, ONE DROP sets up a variety of measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the staff of the Access to Safe Water for the Communities of the Dry Tropics of Honduras project.

Although the events took place a good distance from San Lorenzo, where the project is located, an evacuation plan was quickly implemented. The volunteer cooperators on the site made their way to the Estelí region of Nicaragua and stayed there until the political situation stabilized. The project’s director, meanwhile, stayed in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, to better follow the crisis.

As of July 24, all project staff have returned to Honduras and resumed operations. ONE DROP and project partners are continuing to monitor the political situation closely, of course, to respond swiftly as required. The organization is delighted to be able to continue its work in the field and hopes that the country will soon resume democratic governance.
