PRISMA 2: Integrated Management of Maternal and Child Health in Artibonite

The PRISMA 2 project aimed to improve the health of women, girls, and children aged 0-5 by strengthening the demand for and supply of quality WASH services integrating gender equality. Our unique approach

At both institutional and community levels, the project has deployed Social Art for Behaviour Change (SABC) activities to foster sustainable behaviour change in relation to WASH.

As an iterative and continuous approach, SABC successfully adapted to the priority groups as well as to the social context, in particular the socio-political insecurity and Covid-19 pandemic experienced throughout the project’s implementation.

With the active participation of artists, healthcare providers, youth groups, women's groups and other community members, a range of artworks was created, including a song album, music videos, and fresco (mural) paintings. Awareness-raising campaigns were also carried out in the eight communes supported by the project.

Our key strategies

Implemented in 8 of the 15 Artibonite communes, PRISMA 2 has strengthened the Artibonite department’s health governance, improved institutional emergency obstetric and neonatal care, and promoted community health initiatives to increase coverage for sexual and reproductive health services, and quality of care for mothers, newborns, and children.

"I don't think I have enough words to thank PRISMA2 for all the work they have done in our institution, and the icing on the cake is that the frescoes they have created show another aspect of the community referral hospital, the participation and co-creation of healthcare providers in the creation of works that are dear and precious to us."
-Head Nurse, Estère Community Reference Hospital
“The health department of Artibonite has been recognized as a department with a strong COVID-19 response plan and that is partly thanks to the SABC [approach] and the contributions of artists."
