Moving Stars and Earth for Water will be a special two-hour program with, at its core, a poetic tale written especially for the occasion by Yann Martel. The tale will be gradually revealed as the program takes us through 14 cities around the world. It will bring together personalities such as Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Dr. David Suzuki, Matthew McConaughey, Peter Gabriel, Salma Hayek, Shakira, Tatuya Ishii, U2, Wangari Maathai and many others who will join their voices with Guy Laliberté to celebrate water.

Монреаль

Canadian astronaut Julie Payette and internationally celebrated author Yann Martel will read the first part of the tale. Cirque du Soleil will stage a unique poetic performance to the music of composer Simon Carpentier at la TOHU. Inspired by First Nations myths and legends, the segment will feature aerial acts and Inuk singer Élisapie Isaac.

Johannesburg/Durban

Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai and musician, writer, video-writer and human rights advocate Peter Gabriel read a paragraph of the tale, linking water and education. World-renowned musical group Ladysmith Black Mambazo will perform on a boardwalk, by the sea.

Brazilian musical icon and environmental advocate Gilberto Gil will read the next part of the tale, on protecting the planet's ecosystems. A special event featuring musical group Empolga Às 9 will take place at Fundição Progresso.

Paris

Navigator and environmental advocate Maud Fontenoy will read the next part of the tale, calling attention to water pollution. Leading French-language superstars Garou and Patrick Bruel will be joined by Jean-Jacques Goldman, Lorie, Michel Fugain and Natasha St Pier to sing Luc Plamondon's lyrics. This once-in-a-lifetime performance will be supported byprojections of images created by Yann Arthus Bertrand's for his critically acclaimed film Home.

Leading actor, producer and director Salma Hayek will read the next part of the tale, emphasizing the importance of water in agriculture and food security.This will be followed by a performance by critically acclaimed singer Lila Downs.

Singer-songwriter and performer Shakira will deliver the next paragraph of the tale, on the life-sustaining powers of water. Be prepared to be stopped in your tracks by a surprise performance staged in one of the world's most exhilarating venues!

Conservationist and TV host Bindi Irwin will read the next segment of the tale, calling attention to our threatened lakes and rivers. Rising opera star Tiffany Speight will perform at the Sydney Opera House theater against a backdrop featuring the work of award-winning photographer Peter Lik.

Activist and Senior Advisor on water to the President of the United Nations General Assembly in 2008/2009, Maude Barlow will recite the next part of the tale, emphasizing access to water as a fundamental human right. English Soul and R&B singer Joss Stone will perform.

Poet Touria Ikbal will read the next paragraph of the tale, addressing the relationship which exists between women and water in the developing world. Morocco's number one rap group Fnaïre will perform in a market square.

Eminent Indian author, environmental activist, philosopher and scientist Vandana Shiva will read the next segment of the tale, on the spiritual properties of water. Academy Award-winner composer A. R. Rahman will perform one of his most celebrated songs in a very special manner which was inspired by the Poetic Social Mission.

Respected author, broadcaster and children's rights advocate Tetsuko Kuroyanagi will read the next part of the tale, on the melting polar ice caps. A leader in the Japanese artistic community, multidisciplinary artist Tatuya Ishii will deliver an early-morning performance. Biologist and filmmaker Jean Lemire will provide stunning visual imagery.

Санта Моника

Star of the silver screen Matthew McConaughey will read the next part of the tale, a tribute to the living animal populations of our oceans. The audience will be treated to elegant cinematic images of Ahes and Snow provided courtesy of filmmaker and photographer Gregory Colbert.

Guy Laliberté has a space-to-earth conversation with very good chum Bono and U2. They will discuss the uniqueness and beauty of the Earth in the solar system. U2's performance will be supported by images of our blue planet, taken from the International Space Station.

A symbol of our hope for a better future, a group of Russian children will read the last paragraph of the tale. A performance staged in one of Moscow's most famous theaters will feature Bolshoi Ballet's principal dancer Nicolai Tsiskaride and will include a special appearance by the children and Cirque du Soleil.
