On the morning of December 20, 2010, ONE DROP’s Chair, Guy Laliberté, accompanied by Executive Director Lili-Anna Pereša, spoke with and took questions from the media and friends of ONE DROP during the organization’s first ever interactive Web conference. This inaugural event served to celebrate and report on ONE DROP’s first three years. Guy, who is also the founder of Cirque du Soleil, announced that close to $41 million had been collected since the creation of ONE DROP in 2007 with a view to realizing its mission, initiatives and dream of access to water for all, today and tomorrow.
During the live webcast, Guy described how ONE DROP’s five-year pilot project in Nicaragua had met all of its objectives: for instance, 95% of families touched by support efforts have shown a marked reduction in gastro-intestinal diseases, harvest sizes in the Esteli region have quadrupled, local agricultural markets are selling surplus foods, and the proportion of women receiving micro-credit has jumped from 20% to 70%. Looking to the future, Guy announced the recent expansion of ONE DROP into the United States, Great Britain and France.
Guy said: “I wish to thank all of our supporters and partners while extending my hand to the world, so that they might join our dream, one drop at a time, one gesture at a time, for future generations.” The entire webcast is available to watch anytime! Enjoy it at ONEDROP.org.
