The architect of ONE DROP, Guy Laliberté, once said that his dreams for ONE DROP were as large as for his original creation, Cirque du Soleil. On Saturday, August 28, this statement was proven, once again, with LA SOIRÉE, a benefit event in Quebec City, Canada, under the honorary presidency of Robert Lepage. Some 2,500 people came to the towering blue and yellow Big Top at the city’s Old Port to watch a presentation of Cirque’s latest touring show, TOTEM. With attendees such as Quebec City mayor Régis Labeaume, LA SOIRÉE was an enormous success.
Guy Laliberté and TOTEM director Robert Lepage introduced and hosted the benefit event which raised CAD $820,000 to benefit ONE DROP and the Fondation IMAGINER UN MONDE MEILLEUR (FIMM). The two organizations will share the amount, allocating it respectively to ONE DROP’s Project Haiti (in particular, to restoring water infrastructure in this country and carrying out awareness activities in developing countries such as Canada) and to activities organized by the Centre résidentiel et communautaire Jacques-Cartier, an organization supported by the FIMM aimed at helping teens living difficult situations to realize their full potential.
The next benefit evening will take place in Miami’s Bicentennial Park on December 1, 2010.
