ONE DROP chairperson, Guy Laliberté, was honoured to be the keynote speaker at the third Rotary Water Summit, held June 19 in Montreal. In his morning speech to delegates from Rotary International and water experts from around the world, Guy pointed out that “By participating in this summit and with your ongoing projects, you demonstrate and explain that taking care of water is not just a ‘feel good’ commitment, it is a basic necessity for life as we know it.”
The third such summit organized by the Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) included other presenters such as Clarissa Brocklehurst, chief of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) at UNICEF, and Jon Lane, executive director of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council and former head of WaterAid. The event’s purpose was to draw attention to water-related issues and share information about certain initiatives addressing the lack of water and sanitation for billions of people. WASRAG’s next Rotary Water Summit has been announced for New Orleans in May 2011.
