Women at the Source: Leading Change for Water Security

Water shapes lives. For millions of women around the world, it shapes their opportunities, their health, and their future. Yet women remain disproportionately affected by the global water crisis, while also being among its most powerful agents of change. The crisis is here: today, more than 2 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water, and the window to act is narrowing.

To help shift this reality, the One Drop Foundation is launching Women at the Source, a new initiative designed to elevate women’s leadership in support of UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to ensure sustainable water and sanitation for all people.

Since 2007, One Drop has impacted the lives of more than
1,2 million women around the world with access to safe water—proof that collective action delivers tangible change.

A new initiative rooted in action

Women at the Source synergizes a circle of women leaders and changemakers committed to advancing the global movement towards water and gender equality.

For an entire year, ambassadors will use their voices, networks, and influence to raise awareness, mobilize support, and contribute to meaningful, lasting change for the communities that most bear the brunt of water challenges.

This initiative reflects a simple but powerful belief: lasting change starts with people and empowered women are the catalyzers.

Why women, why now?

Around the world, women and girls are most often responsible for collecting water, managing household hygiene, and caring for their families. When water is scarce or unsafe, it is their time, health, and opportunities that are most impacted.

But this is not a victim narrative—women are key to the solution.

When women are involved in water governance, community decision-making, and local entrepreneurship, water solutions become more sustainable, inclusive, and effective. Investing in women means strengthening entire communities.

Join the movement

Women at the Source is more than an initiative. It is part of a growing global movement which understands that solving the water crisis requires inclusive leadership and collective action.

By synergizing women leaders, networks, and resources, Women at the Source is part of a future where everyone has access to safe water—where women are valued, supported, and empowered as leaders of lasting change.
